DEITERRA!

“Are you ready?” Hanna asked quietly, squeezing my hand before I pulled on my gauntlet. “Is there anything else you need?”

I shook my head. We were prepared.

It was before dawn and we were at the Ancient Interface System, waiting for Pelton to join us. Over the last twenty-four hours we’d organized everything for the time I would be away – and everything in case our plan didn’t go to plan.

Aella was to stay with my pregnant wives and ensure they escaped to safety if the worst were to happen. They would travel to Little Loruk and seek protection with Duke Omax. Omax himself had already started portaling soldiers from Little Loruk, and Gracie was working with the knights to organize the army into a cohesive defense around Lisben.

The vacant tents from the tourney would house the soldiers and act as a temporary barracks while the knights would move to the cottages.

Out of nowhere, Pelton populated right in front of our eyes.

“Excellent,” he said as he glanced at the seven of us. My ladies had all insisted on coming out to see me off, and I wasn’t opposed to it. I knew that this would be my most risky journey yet. “Are you ready?” he asked.

“Yes,” I said as I gazed over Hanna, Kaitlyn, Gracie and Aella. I’d already said my goodbyes. When my eyes fell on Lucy, I paused. It was only now, after seeing her determined expression, that I noticed her tunic, boots and bag of holding.

She held my gaze and nudged her chin up an inch. “I need to come with you,” she said simply. “I know I’m useless in a fight, but as a domestic I’ll be able to blend in there.”

I frowned, but looked at Pelton for confirmation. To my surprise, he gave a small shrug and a nod. “That makes sense. Most gods have at least three or four domestics to attend to their needs. It would probably look strange for me to visit without at least one.”

I sputtered my lips. “Well I guess there are four of us now.”

Kaitlyn and Hanna looked worriedly between themselves.

“Don’t worry, I’ll massage your gross swollen feet at the end of the day,” Aella said with a musical sigh. “Lucy left me lists of chores I’ve gotta do for you pregnant ladies!”

Kaitlyn laughed nervously. “It’s not that we’re worried for us, dummy! I just… I know Pippa can handle a fight, but Lucy…”

“I’ll be fine. I’ve… I’ve seen my own fate, and my life doesn’t end in Deiterra,” Lucy’s eyes fixed on me again. “I won’t get in the way.”

I nodded. “Well, what are we waiting for?” I said and gestured to Hekten, the guard at the Ancient Interface System. He grumbled something sleepily that I didn’t catch. So instead of talking to him, I addressed the hologram.

“We need a portal to Deiterra,” I said.

She smiled and blinked several times at me. “Please confirm your request. Did you order a portal to Deiterra, home of the gods?” her voice was slightly sassy and I smirked, glancing back at Pelton.
